Obituary of Joseph O'Hara
Joseph O’Hara, 87, passed away on February 20, 2018 at Long Island State Veterans Home and is now resting peacefully with God. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on January 17, 1931, Joe is the son of the late Thomas and Mary O'Hara. In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas and Edward, and his sisters, Ann and Margaret. Joe is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lois (Cocchiola), and his children, Christopher and Jennifer.
Joe will be missed by the many people that he provided guidance to and supported throughout his career as a social worker, family counselor and a proud member of the Northport East Northport School Board. He will be remembered for his broad smiles, quick laughter and determination. The family offers their profound gratitude to the staff in Long Island State Veteran’s Home who cared for him during the past 2 years, with kindness, compassion and a gentle understanding for his unique needs.
There will visiting at Nolan & Taylor-Howe Funeral Home at 5 Laurel Ave, Northport, NY, on Monday, February 26th from 6 to 9pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Philip Neri Church at 344 Main St, Northport, NY on Tuesday February 27th at 11am, followed by burial at Calverton National Cemetery with military honors for his service in the US Army.
